What to do after getting a DWI?

DWI IN DFW

What to do after getting a DWI?

Navigating through the Criminal Justice System can be difficult, especially if its your first time. Driving While Intoxicated is one of the most common criminal offenses in Texas. DWI-1st is considered a Class B Misdemeanor and is punishable between 6 and 180 days in jail and/or a maximum of $2,000 to $4,000 fine. Many District Attorneys in the DFW Metroplex prosecute DWI cases to the fullest extent. If you or a loved one is facing a DWI charge it is important to be aware of what your next steps need to be. The Law Offices of Sloane are ready to walk you or your loved one through this difficult time.

  1. Bond Out: We recommend having a loved one find a bondsman in the county that you were arrested in. This loved one will act as a mediator to obtain the bail bond. After obtaining a bail bond, your release will be initiated. This can take anywhere from 24-72 hours to be processed by the jail. When out custody please be sure to review your bail bond conditions. Bond conditions are requirements that the court imposes throughout your pre-trial process until your case is resolved.

  1. Hire an Attorney: Hiring an attorney should be your top priority after being released from custody. When looking for an attorney it is important to seek someone with experience and knowledge in the county that you were arrested in. We recommend researching the attorney in depth on their websites and reading through reviews in order to validate their previous outcomes.  An experienced attorney will advise you throughout your matter and will give you continuous updates.

Our office has served a variety of counties throughout Texas and we are ready to serve you! We offer insightful information on our website & social media platforms that may help you throughout your matter.

  1. Refrain from Criminal Activities: Counties do not have official timelines to resolving DWI matters, it is important to stay patient and out of trouble throughout this time. We recommend keeping a regular form of employment for court fees and staying away from any criminal activities.
